CSSA Insurance Gets Better

January 2007

The new insurance policy protecting all CSSA members and clubs has now been raised to $5 million from $2 million –- more than double the coverage.

Following are some highlights about the individual membership coverage:

  • liability limit - $5,000,000.00
  • Primary Coverage on club property or at club sanctioned events (otherwise the coverage is secondary), which means this policy takes effect immediately. Most other policies are secondary where they only take effect when all other coverage is exhausted (e.g. your home owners insurance)
  • Coverage is World Wide - some policies only cover you at your home range
  • Members are covered for any recreational shooting activity, including hunting
There are only two exclusions to this policy. It will not cover any liability for intentional criminal acts, or for professional activities. Police officers, security guards, etc. are not covered while on duty. However, off duty in a recreational situation, they are covered.

In addition, the Accidental Death and Dismemberment (ADD) coverage has been doubled to $4,000.00.

Private Ranges: The new policy also allows us to provide insurance to approved private ranges.

We strive to give our members the best protection available –- with the best insurance coverage and professional representation in Ottawa.
