CSSA opens Ottawa communications office
Team CSSA welcomes former Breitkreuz staffer as new Communications Director
Team CSSA is pleased to announce the opening of our new Ottawa office. National Capital operations will be headed up by Brant Scott, former Garry Breitkreuz M.P. staffer.
Brant is a marketing communications consultant and the former Parliamentary Assistant to Garry Breitkreuz, M.P. He worked closely with Garry for three years on firearms issues after former assistant, Dennis Young, relocated to Alberta.
For many years, Brant worked as a professional writer, public relations consultant and policy advisor. He has a background in marketing communications, journalism, and media relations in both the public and private sectors. Brant has advised members of Parliament and senior government officials on a variety of breaking issues. He joins Team CSSA as our new Communications Director
During his tenure on Parliament Hill, Brant also helped to raise the profile of the Parliamentary Outdoors Caucus, which is co-chaired by Garry Breitkreuz. That organization provides a non-partisan voice for Canada's heritage activities of sport shooting, hunting, fishing and trapping. The Outdoors Caucus has grown into one of the largest all-party caucuses in Ottawa.
"I've spent many hours working with Brant Scott on firearms issues in recent years and I know he believes in good old-fashioned teamwork," says Tony Bernardo, CILA's Executive Director. "The difference now is we're working for the same employer, and I look forward to continuing that team work. We understand the legislative process, how politics works, and how to use communications as a tool, so the CSSA is in good hands."
"Brant is a shooter and angler who enjoys the outdoors. More importantly, he understands the importance of target shooting and hunting as heritage family and sporting activities. With his exceptional marketing and communication abilities, firearms owners are fortunate to have him aboard."
While Brant was working with Garry Breitkreuz, he acted as liaison with the CSSA on a variety of gun-related issues, including the long-gun registry, U.N. gun-marking, black powder policy, and other important industry files.
"The CSSA worked with the MP's office on Bill C-301 and later Bill C-391," explains Bernardo. "There were times when it seemed every federal political party was exploiting the gun registry for their own political end, but we kept the focus where it belonged - on sport shooters and hunters. We never took our eye off the target. With the prospect of a federal election looming, our communications effort will be paramount."
