MAJORITY: A great day for Canada's firearm owners!
Congratulations to the members of Canadian Shooting Sports Association for pulling together during the federal election campaign. You can share in the credit for the positive outcome.
Many CSSA members helped candidates do the heavy lifting in constituencies across the country. As the polls closed and the Conservative tally escalated, responsible firearms owners across the land celebrated. Our freedom grew on the night of May 2 and we thank everyone who played a role. Whether you campaigned, erected lawn signs or simply voted to support firearms freedom, congratulations on making it happen. There is little doubt that gun owners had considerable influence in removing several pro-registry MPs, including Mark Holland, Larry Bagnell, Todd Russell and Anthony Rota, and there is little doubt that we played a substantial role in the election of many MPs.
The election results beg the question for gun owners: Now what? The question is a good one, because there are several things we need to do. The Harper government has publicly promised to scrap the long-gun registry and we all expect that to happen. There is also a record of previous pledges to introduce favourable legislation for firearms owners. Please rest assured that the CSSA executive is preparing a communications strategy to move our issues forward. We believe it is important to adopt a single-window communications flow to deal with the new majority government to ensure your voice is heard by the right people.
We are asking our members to allow the CSSA to represent them in the lobbying process for the legislative changes that will benefit responsible gun owners. We are developing several initiatives to represent our membership to the new majority government and as always, your suggestions and comments are gratefully received. While some gun owners might be tempted to contact their MPs directly with a slate of demands, we believe that using the collective voice of the CSSA will be most effective.
Congratulations on this great federal victory and please stay tuned for the CSSA’s strategy to reintroduce federal fairness for all responsible firearms owners.
Enjoy the celebration!
