A letter from Tony Bernardo

DONATE: Help fight the CFO

Dear friends,

By now I'm sure you're all aware of the problems our community is experiencing with the Draconian edicts from the Chief Firearms Office, first in Ontario, now in New Brunswick. For the sake of our rights, not just as firearms owners but as citizens of Canada, we must stand against this arbitrary oppression from an un-elected bureaucracy.

I have taken a stand. Yesterday, on January 29, 2013, I personally filed papers in provincial court against the Chief Firearms Office, the opening salvo in "Bernardo vs Wyatt."

I did this because I believe in the good people in the firearms community and I believe in Canada's democracy. I believe in the future of my children, and of my grandchildren. I did this for you, too. Many of you have given me your faith and your proxy and that is an obligation I take very seriously.

Please stand with me.

Please write a polite letter to our Prime Minister expressing your disappointment in the actions of the CFO. Ask him to eliminate the ATT and rein in the powers of the CFOs. The contact information is below.

Please become a member of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA). If you are already a member, ask your friends to join the CSSA. There is power in numbers and those numbers depend on you.

Please make a donation and join the fight. Court cases and legislative initiatives run on dollars. The more we have, the more we can do. The CSSA has an international reputation for accomplishing much with very little and rest assured, we will continue our tradition of giving you great value.

Many of you have written your letter and sent in a donation to the case and for that, you have our thanks. Talk to your friends, talk to your family. Help them understand the importance of this fight for our rights.

Please do it now. The CFOs have lots of our money to fight this court case, and those tax dollars come from your pockets. Please give generously and help us help you.

We're stronger when we stand together.

Thank you all,

Tony Bernardo

PS: We go to court March 5, 2013 in the Oshawa Courthouse, Room 108 at 9:00 am.
PPS: If you wish to file your own suit against the CFO, let me know. It's easy, we'll tell you how!

Please tell our federal politicians:

  • a) ATTs are specifically designed to harass sport shooters and do nothing to keep Canadians safe
  • b) Every ATT application to the CFO to move restricted and prohibited firearms is granted with a rubber-stamp – it is an expensive, useless exercise
  • c) Criminals do not seek permission to transport firearms, so the ATT does not prevent crime
  • d) ATTs provide CFOs with another avenue to make up more stringent and unfair rules on their own
  • e) The federal government grants power to the CFOs and then refuses to take responsibility for those powers. The CFO's don't make the law, Parliament does.
  • f) Scrapping ATTs was advocated by the Public Safety Minister’s Firearms Advisory Committee who are Canada’s leading experts on firearms.
  • g) The Conservative government campaigned on scrapping Bill C-68 for years and gun owners everywhere supported it – the government should stand and deliver
